Iphone12 and iphone13 series support up to 15W, with magnetic suction function. Other iPhones support up to 7.5W, have no magnetic absorption function, are compatible with airpods headset box supporting wireless charging and other devices supporting Qi protocol wireless charging, and are powered by usb-c interface.

1. Unpacking
The outer packing box is very small, not much larger than the previous data line packing box.

2.18/20/30w power adapter maximum output power test

2.1 no load state

Under no-load condition, the power consumption of MagSafe is 0.33w (stable value) and 0.50W (maximum value).

2.2 maximum output power test of 18 / 20 / 30W power adapter

It is said on the packaging box that 20W charger is required to supply power. From low to high, 18 / 20 / 30W usb-c interface chargers are used to supply power to MagSafe.

Iphone12 is tested when the power is 15% - 20%, and the power output shows the real-time maximum power consumed by MagSafe:
The maximum power at the power output of 18W charger can be close to 15W.
The maximum power at the power output of 20W and 30W chargers can be close to 18W, less than 20W.

3. Charging speed test (iphone12)

3.1 third party shell, no heat dissipationWhen wearing a third-party protective shell, use a 20W charger to supply power. In the initial state, the output power of the power supply fluctuates between 11-14w, charging from 15% to 42% in 30 minutes, with a total charge of 27%, almost half of the wired fast charge.
In the case of using a third-party protective shell plus heat dissipation equipment, the maximum output power of the power terminal can still only reach about 14W. MagSafe probably has strict requirements for sensing distance. Too thick protective shell will affect the charging power.

3.2 bare metal, no heat dissipation
The real-time power of the bare metal state power supply can reach up to 18W +, basically in line with the maximum 15W advertised by apple. Start charging from 19%, 20 minutes to 48%, 30 minutes to 61%, 40 minutes to 74%, and 50 minutes to 80%. The charge in 30 minutes is 42%, which is slightly inferior to the wired fast charge.
The charging curve can be called a wonderful work. Basically, the power has to be reduced once in about a minute, and then restored to the maximum power. The reason is unknown for the time being.

3.3 bare metal + heat dissipation

Test conditions: bare metal, the body is mounted on the mobile phone shell, and the USB Fan is used to assist heat dissipation, so as to keep the surface of the mobile phone and charger at a low temperature, as shown in the figure.

The initial charge is 22%, the charge in 30 minutes is 45%, and the charge in 60 minutes is 68%. The charging curve is shown in the figure below:

3.4 under the condition of poor heat dissipation
Room temperature 21 ℃, bare metal state, place the mobile phone and charger on the paper pump for charging. (I really can't think of any scene with worse heat dissipation than this for daily use.)

The initial charge is 19%, 26% in 30 minutes (average power is about 5.34w), 32% in 40 minutes and 45% in 60 minutes. During 25-30 minutes, the calorific value is the largest, and the temperature of the whole machine is high. In the rest of the time, only the body part corresponding to the charger and coil has a high temperature. During the whole test process, the back of the charger is always at an almost hot temperature. The charging curve is as follows:


3.5 charging test in bright screen state (in doubt)
The charging power in the state of charging while playing in many use scenarios has been tested. Without heat dissipation equipment, it has not been found that the power output power exceeding 2.5W may be due to heating. As we all know, the battery can't be charged / discharged at the same time, and 2.5W obviously can't meet the peak power of iPhone. Therefore, in the current version, iPhone is likely to have less and less power when using MagSafe to charge and play!

4. Charging speed test (iphone13pro)
4.1 bare metal, no heat dissipation
21% of initial power,
Charge 13% in 10 minutes,
Charge 21% in 20 minutes,
Charge 27% in 30 minutes,

Before the battery power reaches 70%, 13% is charged every 10 minutes, which is close to the actual charging speed of 20W wired charging.

5. Magnetic attraction test
5.1 bare metal status
MagSafe has a strong suction on the iPhone in the bare metal state, which is enough to hang the 203G iphone13pro in the air for charging.


When picking up the phone, you need to use your fingers to push the charger on the back of the phone and remove the charger.

5.2 wear a third-party non-magnetic protective shell:
MagSafe has limited suction on the iPhone wearing a third-party protective case. It can only keep itself adsorbed on the iPhone. When picking up the phone, the charger will not fall off and can not reach the level that it can firmly absorb.

5.3 wearing a third-party magnetic suction protective shell test:

6. Heating
Room temperature 22 ℃, no ventilation, bare metal charging, without any auxiliary heat dissipation equipment.
The initial power is 25%, and the power after 20 minutes is 59%, which is equivalent to 35%, 704.9mah (2014mah * 0.35), and the average power is 8.17w.
The maximum temperature on the surface of the charger is 35.9 ℃, the maximum temperature on the front of the body is 36.8 ℃, and the maximum temperature on the back of the body is 36.4 ℃:

The initial power is 23%, and the power after 20 minutes is 49%, which is equivalent to charging 26%, 798mah (3072mah * 0.26), and the average power is 8.4w.
The maximum temperature of the charger surface is 38 ℃, the maximum temperature of the front of the body is 34 ℃, and the maximum temperature of the back of the body is 37.2 ℃:

To sum up: it's hot, but it's not completely hot

But all the above is based on the premise of reducing the power. This thing will reduce the power after running with full blood for about 5 minutes.

If it is maintained at 15W for a long time, it is estimated that running to 50 ℃ on the fuselage surface is not a problem.
As for why I only test for 20 minutes?
Because even for 30 minutes and 40 minutes, the temperature basically increases significantly. Apple realizes the "dynamic balance" between heating and heat dissipation by reducing power.

7. Summary & frequently asked questions:
Q1: what kind of charger is needed for power supply:
A1: port C, 20W and above, supporting 9v2 22A gear, without the original apple.
Q2: can I charge with a protective case?
A2: Yes, the suction force of the non-magnetic suction case will be seriously affected. If the protective case is too thick, it will affect the charging power, and wearing the protective case will increase the heat dissipation pressure of the fuselage.
Q3: is the third-party MagSafe charger worth buying?

A3: not recommended. At present, most of the third-party magnetic suction wireless chargers on the market are false propaganda, that is, the highest propaganda is 15W, but in fact, it is 15W for Android devices, and the highest for iPhone is still only 7.5W.
